All about cows

When students from Harakeke and Kowhai were picked up from school today they were overheard chatting excitedly to parents about cows, bulls and milk.  Farmer Stacey came to school today and talked to them about life on a dairy farm, showing them videos of feeding cows, milking cows, milk trucks, etc.  She bought silage and turnips as examples of food that the cows eat.

Toby shared that "We tried some raw milk from the girl cows.  It was different but I liked it.  Some people didn't.  Baby cows drink milk from mummy cows . . . then the girl (farmer) usually helps them . . . she holds their heads and helps put their mouth on the teat. . . and a big truck holds all the milk."
